Combining Wet and Dry Approach

I started with soaking wet the whole sheet of paper from both sides. Some of the small details were reserved with masking fluid before wetting the paper.

Wet stage.

Then I let it dry naturally or with a little help of a hair dryer. The dry painting I fixed with tape to a board and continued painting wet on dry.

Dry stage.

Then it took just a little time to finish the painting. The important thing: finishing the most important tonal, color relationships and the background in wet stage.

Finished painting. 28x38 cm (1/4 sheet)

Here is another painting done in the same technique just before...

Sunny, windy... 28x38 cm

  3. I've enjoyed your blog for a while, but I didn't realize that you were such a skilled and talented painter: I thought the site was just about your appreciation for watercolor. Well done--these are beautiful! Thanks for sharing your process.
